Jocelyn Wright

After teaching in early childhood for 20 years, Jocelyn joined the University of Canterbury and spent 14 years managing and delivering two Ministry of Education Early Childhood Professional development contracts. Jocelyn had responsibility for managing and supporting an inspirational team of facilitators and together they progressed current ideas on teaching and learning with teachers in their region.
Jocelyn has a passion and commitment toward making a difference in the lives of teachers, children and families/whānau involved in early years education. Over the years she has worked with teachers from across the early childhood sector and within the junior primary sector. Through Jocelyn's recent study she has developed a particular interest in children’s continuity of learning as they move from one sector to another and enjoy working in cross-sector environments. Jocelyn has research experience and has recently been involved in a number of research projects including Centres of Innovation and Enhancing Practice in Special Education. She says she finds practitioner research particularly rewarding.
Jocelyn has always lived in Christchurch and enjoys the relationships she has with her wider whanau. Jocelyn lives with her husband in their now ‘empty nest’. Jocelyn's son was the latest to leave home and is now making his home in Brisbane. Her daughter and partner live around the corner which ensures she has a lot of contact with her granddaughter, Ruby, and grandson, Ash. Jocelyn manages to escape the city regularly to spend time on the beach at Gore Bay, North Canterbury, this is where she unwinds by reading and tending to a great vege garden.
